Michael, I have not followed this thread in depth. Sorry if I cover old ground. Please give me a bit of info: uname -a ls -al /usr/src lspci lsmod cat /etc/modules.d/alsa Basically I'm concerned that the hardware you have and the modules you are trying to load aren't matching up. As an FYI only, I've never managed to boot a completely working kernel I created with genkernel. It just didn't work for me.
