Very cool, but, I'll have to look into this versus GNAP
after I get firewall built quick for a friend.

Right now, I decided to use an 8 gig HD for now
and build them the way I have been for a while.

One question remains. These are vintage 586 machines, so the
building process is a bit finiky as gentoo support for
i586 is sporadic at best. I have not found stage3 tar files for
i586 under 2007.0 on several mirros. Maybe they exist elsewhere?

  Looking at this dir:
http://gentoo.mirrors.tera-byte.com/releases/x86/2006.1/stages/
<snip>
 stage3-i586-2006.1-no-nptl.tar.bz2
stage3-i586-2006.1.tar.bz2

I see nptl and no-nptl versions. Could somebody explain the difference
in how it relates to an old i586? Is this a choice that either
will work or do I have to use no-nptl for certain vendors
cpus(k6) ?

Can I use nptl? What's the minimum USE flags for a hardened i586?
I just run iptables and get 3 or 4 ethernet cards working.

James
system using nptl?
