What about the runners-up in the previous election? One possibility would be to see if the next-highest votee in the prior election is still available. If s/he is, it would make sense for that person to take over.
Nevertheless I'm still planning to open a thread in the forums and on ML to let the user community discuss all this too. So we can see what peeps think about it. But before doing that I wanted it to be discuss with userrel. If you are interested, you are very welcome to join us in the debate. ;)
