How about we update
http://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/developer/release-guide/index.html#notify-developer-list
to the following:
Before: *It is good practice to notify the GeoServer developer list of the
intention to make the release a few days in advance, even though the
release date has been agreed upon before hand.*
After: *Send an email reminder to the GeoServer developers list a few days
in advance, even though the release date has been agreed upon before hand.
It is a good idea to remind developers to get any fixes 24 hours prior to
release day, and ask for any known blockers.*
We can also add a release section to
http://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/developer/policies/community-process.html#release-cycle
covering what we expect from contributors.
This page has an "Adding features" section, I think an "Adding fixes"
section would be also be good: spelling out fixes against master, release
day cautions, etc...
