A good discussion :). Landon I hope you haven't been scared off by some of it and I take off my hat to you for bravely starting such an exciting conversation.
A quick POV from me: As far as i can tell there are 2 main options out there: Maven and Ant + Ivy Ant is nice in its simplicity and IVY makes the nightmare of dependency management much more acceptable. In my opinion Maven has a terrible configuration system but the variety of plugins available is great. For ant you need to have the extra plugins installed in every machine. Maven you list the servers and the plugins and the installation of dependencies and plugins is handled for you. As mentioned maven also "suggests" a directory structure which is nice for getting to know other/new maven projects.
