Well, as said in my previous email a "geotidy for geotools" mercurial clone may 
be required anyway in order to reinject some deprecated methods that I removed. 
Keeping this clone compatible with Java 5 will not be the hardest task.

For those who may worry about the deprecated methods that we removed and other 
changes, we have already got (internally) a successfull build of most of the 
Geotools library against geotidy. We can't test it yet however as long as the 
EPSG database is not yet ported to geotidy.
