So Michael I think we need a bit more information:
- what are the restrictions on publishing to the maven central or sonyatype?
- we can marshal our unsupported modules into different piles depending on how 
ready they are; I would be very keen to only publish a limited set of these jars

Simone you are on java.net - any word on how their maven migration is going? 
Right now uDig is checking a repository hosted  by your organisation 
(http://mvn.geo-solutions.it/).

Indeed uDig build is hitting 4 repositories; resulting in a very slow 
experience :-(
