I haven't seen that message before but it gives you a good idea of
when JAI was last updated :)

Please tell us what platform you are working on and how you've tried
to install JAI so far.  Also, if you are using maven as your build
tool and don't need native acceleration you can just use the pure Java
JAI libraries which will be downloaded for you automagically.
