Why can't mailing lists be more like anonymous IMAP servers
(perhaps something similar but over HTTP, for those behind
firewalls.) No more unsubscription issues, etc. I suppose there
would need to be a personalized per-user receipt address as well...

I run a few dozen mailing lists both at work and personally and I
have given up on admin notices, thankfully with Mailman you can
disable most of them.
I think most people that run public mailing lists end up tweaking the
list software to not send them.
