Define 'free'? http://ondemand.metacarta.com/?method=GeoTagger terms of use say: "The Information is released to you under the terms similar to the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial license with additional restrictions described below. We will offer commercial licensing in the future." -- http://accounts.metacarta.com/terms-of-use.html The geoparsing that MetaCarta does is much more geared towards pulling geographic references from natural text. For example, since I'm about to mention that I live in Cambridge, MA, it will pick that out of this email. At the same time, it will pick up the fact that when I'm in London and travelling to the Cambridge over in the UK, that I mean a different Cambridge -- specifically, Cambridge, UK. You can test this by: * Opening http://ondemand.metacarta.com/explorer/ * Selecting 'GeoTagger' from the API * Copy pasting the above paragraph into the 'doc' field. I don't know if this does what you're interested in or not, or if it meets the definition of 'free' that you're interested in.
