One simple way to discuss this in the short term is to start "wanking" on the various spatially-enabled, Yahoo Pipes-like tools. I know this isn't as meta or universal as you're talking about, but it's a place we can mess around with coding and not just talk theory.
Here's my list of "pipe" apps: Yahoo Pipes: http://pipes.yahoo.com IBM QEDWiki: http://services.alphaworks.ibm.com/qedwiki/ Microsoft connected services sandbox: http://www.networkmashups.com/ Fuji: http://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/200x/2008/06/02/JBI By the way, what's the difference between what you're talking about and the "Enterprise Application Integration" (EAI) term the corporate world uses? --- Raj stephen white wrote: >> To cut/paste selectively from some messages I wrote in private: The >> durability aspect is definitely one that we need to talk about more. >> The difficulty with the existing approaches is that it's at the crux >> of two totally different issues: >> >> 1) The specific interface of the mash-up means that data cannot be >> pulled out and used elsewhere. >> >> 2) A generalised approach to storing and retrieving data is needed, >> but lacks the usability of the specific interface. >> >> The way out of this conundrum is to come up with something that is >> generic enough for all data, while still allowing selection of >> interesting data.
