I recently picked up A to Z GIS (published by ESRI). It walks through hundreds (maybe thousands) of geo terms. Might be really handy if you're diving in head first.

This is quite a broad request - have anything more specific in mind?

Here are a couple of additional resources:

"Geospatial Analysis" book by Smith, Goodchild, and Lengley - free in
HTML

OSGeo GIS tutorials:

ArcGIS cookbook:

and of course - O'Reilly books

(look under related for great links to "GIS for Web Developers", and
"Web Mapping Illustrated" books)

Hello all,

I am new to the GIS field and wondering the best online resource
for learning about GIS (not wikipedia). I would like to learn how to
track myself with GPS devices, learn about the formats that data
saves in, and I suppose the bare basics of GIS. Any direction is
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Damon
