Susanne,
Wow, that's a lot of money for gerbils.
When I was writing that, I was thinking about things like hip dysplasia &
"bloat" & megacolon & other things that giant breeds of dogs and pure bred
cats are often predisposed to. I just recently found out that TICA (The
International Cat Association) board of directors voted down an ammendment
to their judging rules that a cat should be penalized (if not outright
disqualified) if it had some sort of obvious defect in its hindquarters
that would affect its gait or ability to stand. It's on their web site
http://www.tica.org under the minutes for the last meeting. Made me
furious. They don't even care if the animals can walk or breathe, as long
as they look pretty! <grrrrr!> One of many reasons I don't breed cats any
more.
<deep breath> Ahem. Anyway, so did you have medical problems that were
really severe, or was this over a period of years? As far as the price
being the same... I recently paid $94.00 to have my dog's foot stitched
when she stepped on some glass (they had to knock her out.) I can't imagine
gerbil stitches costing that much. <grin>
all the best,
Rebecca...
