Yeah, Another good item is the rolls from those large toilet paper
rolls.  A friend of mine works in a convience store and would collect the
large rolls for me.  They're about 4 inches long and about 4 inches in
diameter, and the card is about 1/4" thick, so it takes awhile for gerbils
to chew through.  On their side they make perfect nests, and stacked they
can be little hidey holes or whatnot.  And thier wide enough so there's no
sticking potential! :)  I'm sure you could ask any store owner or manager
to get some of those rolls... they just throw them away.  You could even
get some with the paper left on, instant nesting material.
