There IS the chapter on REUSABLE CODE in the Users' Guide, but the
text and the example code do not make it blatantly obvious, in my
opinion, what can be done in this situation. The language of that
chapter talks much of high ideals, but for neophytes, it's a bit
over their head, until they can actually do something with it. And,
I have to admit, I'm VERY excited about the potential of this
activity, NOW that I BETTER understand it....thanks to the help of
the ListServ. Once I get these modules built it will reduce code-
writing by about 30%.
Writing reusable code is hard. If you can do it, then you're not
really a neophyte any more. Buy and read a copy of "Refactoring" by
Martin Fowler.
If REAL Soft wants to advance their product, I'd recommend putting
some examples of this into their Tutorial. Would it hurt that much?
I'll bet the improvement in the company's bottom line would pay for
enough champagne to assuage the pain of the tech writers.
That Real Software has not put more effort into the documentation
suggests that they think otherwise.
