There IS the chapter on REUSABLE CODE in the Users' Guide, but the text and the example code do not make it blatantly obvious, in my opinion, what can be done in this situation. The language of that chapter talks much of high ideals, but for neophytes, it's a bit over their head, until they can actually do something with it. And, I have to admit, I'm VERY excited about the potential of this activity, NOW that I BETTER understand it....thanks to the help of the ListServ. Once I get these modules built it will reduce code- writing by about 30%.

Writing reusable code is hard. If you can do it, then you're not really a neophyte any more. Buy and read a copy of "Refactoring" by Martin Fowler.

Thanks for the recommendation.

And, as a matter of fact, I'm working ON reusable code from a modules perspective. I figure if I can write several methods that will carry- out routine activities, e.g., collectpanes, populatepanes, findrecords, I'll have eliminated 30% of the code that needs to go into a standard db-oriented application.

That's money in the proverbial 'bank'. And...yes....I'll have drawn myself up by my boot-straps...thanks to the help of the pro-active people on this ListServ.

If REAL Soft wants to advance their product, I'd recommend putting some examples of this into their Tutorial. Would it hurt that much? I'll bet the improvement in the company's bottom line would pay for enough champagne to assuage the pain of the tech writers.

That Real Software has not put more effort into the documentation suggests that they think otherwise.

Yeah....

...but does that REALLY do REAL Soft any 'good'?

P.S. Reality does not change....all that much. And said neighbor will bring a fist-full of money with him. P.P.S. Wasn't it just last week, I noticed REAL Soft was asking for MORE 'money'? One would think that with more money one should expect a better product....neh?
