On Windows, if a ComboBox has focus, you can hit ALT+UP ARROW (or DOWN ARROW) to display the list. I can't test it right now, but I assume there is a similar key combination on Mac.
Not sure that helps, but it could at least be a start--if you can figure out how to simulate key presses.
