Surely you can still write to a file using textio from deep down in the
hierarchy? textio isn't restricted to the top level.
The only condition would be if it was synthesisable code then you'd have
to mask off the non-synthesisable textio commands (and package
declaration?) from synthesis as shown in Sylvere's link below.
