I'm trying to help my boyfriend find glasses-- he has a very high prescription, in the range of -11 and -12. His head seems to be on the large side and his eyes are certainly very large. His current glasses, which are wire frame and have nosepads, are 50-19-142. I'm not totally sure if the 142 refers to the arm length or the temple-to-temple width.
He wants to go for something that's plastic and horn-rimmed and kinda geek-chic, but not ACTUALLY supergeeky with coke bottle glassy He wants high index lenses and is concerned that anything less than 1.74 will be too thick. I know zenni has a wide selection of frames and goes up to his prescription, but I they highest index they have is 1.67, which he thinks will be WAY too thick. I know that he can get higher index from globaleyeglasses, but it seems like at that point, he's spending close to $400 anyway, which is what he can get glasses for with his insurance from a brick and mortar shop. And I think even then it's 1.71, not 1.74 from global. Anyway tips for helping him get a great frame with the right lenses? --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Check us out at the oft-updated http://www.glassyeyes.com!
