Thanks Bruce. I didn't think it was that simple. Actually, I didn't mean "alternate" in the sense "in addition to", I meant "alternative", "instead of". Basically I just wanted to switch my home directories, which this seems to do just great. How does one go about specifying an alternate home directory in Cygwin? Right now, ~ == / and I'd rather it be /cygdrive/d/User\ Profiles/eprice
export HOME="/cygdrive/d/User Profiles/eprice" The above establishes your home directory - there really is no "alternate home" directory in Unix (that I'm aware of).
Only problem -- I need to have this happen every time I log in. So I guess I just put it in /.bashrc ?
Cygwin, while definitely better than DOS, is kind of weird because the filesystem isn't arranged the same. (For instance, in the above paragraph -- whoever thought you'd see a .bashrc in the root directory?) Also, like the CMD.exe program, I can't seem to stretch the window out beyond the default width (though at least I can adjust the height). In other words, while it's nice to have, it isn't a substitute for the Real Thing[tm]!
