I'm the one who initially suggested Emacs+ediff mode.

If you come away from this thread with the knowledge that Emacs can do
this sort of thing, then I'm satisfied.  Use whatever tool that you
want to for this sort of operation.

I only recommend tools that I've used and find to be highly useful.

When you have a pretty good toolbox and know how to use the tools,
life is good.
