The doc indicates that the ht flag is kept for backwards compatibility (for licensing, etc). Now the mystery is solved. The dual-core Xeon family does have HT available as well, so you can get 2 real cpu cores each with SMT capability. Of course, you need well structured software to take advantage of that, but that was a given for everything from HT onward! Thanks for the help!
