Another couple of things to do, Tom:
1.) Open a terminal window and do a 'free' command and see how badly
you're swapping.
When you see those results, you'll want to add memory and/or swap space.
2.) Bring up X, and then run 'xosview'. That may give you a visual
display of how bad things are... I say "may" because even that will
probably tax your system somewhat, nevermind StarOffice or any other
major application. (Heck, never mind SO - just run Netscape without
specifying a URL on the net, maybe just show a local .jpg - then
see how dismal things are!)
