I've noticed that sometimes I have X-related lockups too. Try
upgrading to 4.1.0, and if you happen to be running an early 2.4
kernel release, try upgrading that too (maybe first). I'm currently
running 2.4.8 with 4.1.0 on my laptop, and it's been rock solid.
