  Yes.  It simply re-writes the MBR boot code.  It does not touch the actual
partition table.

  There is a reason package managers complain about dependencies.  If the
the Debian pre-built binary was built against significantly different
libraries, it might not run at all, or worse still, behave incorrectly.
