My couple of suggestions, since we already have an ApplicationItem source, is there any way of mapping these pages to their application item? So say synaptic, what if you just had a "Read Manual" action, that checked if there was a man page for that item, and then allowed you to open it? Or maybe even better, keep your current functionality for apps that aren't indexed, like terminal apps and stuff, but make ApplicationItems also supported. I also like "Read Manual" over "View Manual". Just a couple of ideas to think about, cool plugin! When you think it's ready let us know and we can merge it into the community repository.
