No, you can just select a different language, and it will work. No need to  
clear cookies or log out.

Yes. For a project like GNOME, where you have a realistic opportunity to  
maintain your website in a lot of languages thanks to your excellent  
translation team — and thus you can avoid what is commonly a problem in  
less comprehensively multilingual communities: Mixing of languages on one  
page.

When you *do* need to have elements that appear for everybody (like news  
items, which I assume are going to be instantly available in English for  
everybody), LinguaPlone has the notion of a "neutral" language object,  
which means it will exist in all languages.

That's a good idea. Translation (as you well know) is a complex problem,  
and we have spent quite some time with our customers and community the  
past few years to build something that works well for them. Trying to  
rebuild a multilingual content management infrastructure is not trivial. :)
