============ John Sankey
While I'm on collision reduction, by far the best way of setting
Scarlatti specialties like this one would be to be able to
specify that the c''4 be on the left side of the stem rather
than the right.
-------------
But it is illegal to have two time values on the same stem.
The dotted half note stem must be moved to the right.
Moving it to the left would not make the stems any closer
and would force the dots to separate from the notes. That
would be ok if there were not another part in the way. The
dots would be correct if this were in two parts, but in
this case they should be placed in the space above to
avoid ambiguity. They are correct *by default*, but they
don't fit, and they must. If the quarters in the lower part
were dotted, for example, then the stems would have to be
offset so much that the dots for the first stem would be
to the left of the 2nd stem! Weirdness, such as placing note
heads on the wrong sides of stems, would not help the
reader at all. When you have three parts, you cannot
always have consistent stem direction in the middle part(s),
and therefore cannot necessarily apply the dot rule to
the middle part(s).
Now all you need is dotted rests...:-)

This is an example of why I find the default hNS too large
(1.2.0). The a'8 is to be sounded with (in actual performance,
a tiny bit before) the b'16 but it's set closer to the c''16.

---------------
Too large? But these ought not to be offset at all. There
is no collision. The stems should be in a straight line.
