Hm. Some time ago they asked me whether I could use their data for
typesetting the music. So we discussed their restrictions. And I
didn't find it unfair. But maybe I do not remember correctly. Imho
they would allow to distribute printable music non-commercially e.g.
using GMD's archive if Musedata as the basic material is mentioned.
They wouldn't allow to convert it to e.g. PMX or MusiXTeX or Lilypond
if then that source is distributed.

As usual it's the "Kleingedruckte" (small print)
I put this "license" there because some people started "stealing" editions
from GMD's archive and presenting it as appetizer on other servers.
Imho it should have been clear, that the editions presented on GMD's
archive are there for printing, non-commercial printing. Anything
else except for really private usage - like making changed editions -
should be discussed with the original editor. [And so I gave my
permission to use a part of my edition of Bach's Sonatas & Partitas
in a commercial context without royalties. It was only mentioned
that the source is http://www.gmd.de/Misc/Music/scores/]
