The file can be located anywhere you want. It doesn’t need to be in a 
particular folder.

If the previous version was 2.6.19 or 2.6.21, you may have found a bug. (or you 
may need to step up more slowly)

The recommended upgrade path from 2.6.x is to first get to 2.6.19 or 2.6.21, 
then upgrade to 3.0, then upgrade to 3.10. (you might be able to use 3.1 
instead of 3.0, and maybe even jump straight from 2.6.19/21 --> 3.10, but a 
developer or someone more versed in this would have to comment)

If the version was 2.4, or even older like 2.2, then you’ll have to step 
through each of those first.

For example, 2.2 --> 2.4 --> 2.6 --> 2.6.21 --> 3.0 --> 3.10

Note that it recommends you run Actions > Check & Repair after each time you 
open the file with the next higher version.

Of course, work with a *copy* of the file. Once it is squared away, you can 
make a new backup of the converted file, and then delete the older backup.
