There is fine technical distinction here when it comes to OneDrive, Google Drive or any other type of "cloud" drive. Unless you specifically save to two different places, possibly first time using "Save" option and then saving it again as "Save as" option to a different location as two separate events in time that are independent actions from within GNC, you are saving it only one time on to your local hard drive. Once the data is committed to the drive as part of the save function, the application of that "cloud" drive running in the background plays complex sequence of events to maintain another copy of that data in the "cloud" and upkeep of its content. The other copy of data in the cloud is kept in proprietary format in their own premises. It works fine when I "Save" it. I only have this problem if I fail to save and the auto save feature has not yet saved it. I don't use multiple computers either. I'm glad it works in 2.6.21, but it doesn't work on my version of Windows 11 GnuCash 4.10. Other users have responded that they're seeing the same issue. If I let the countdown clock in that same dialogue, go to zero, it does save the file without the error message on restart. This may not be correct assumption. The file is on the local hard drive for sure. Only way that file would appear back is if he is using it to access the file from multiple computers or GNC is not removing it. I employ the same work flow (to Google Drive) but it serves as a backup purpose as I do not use it on multiple computers and I experience the same behavior on Windows 10 using GNC 4.10. This is the modern way of doing things, sadly. They employ various means to make sure that the "view" of the drive is consistent. ------------------------------ Message: 8 Date: Mon, 25 Apr 2022 11:07:23 +0100 From: "Fred Bone" <f...@mandfb.me.uk <mailto:f...@mandfb.me.uk> > To: gnucash Users <gnucash-user@gnucash.org <mailto:gnucash-user@gnucash.org> > Subject: Re: [GNC] Shutdown using the "X" in windows 11 Message-ID: <626672db.18965.4c6b...@fred.mandfb.me.uk <mailto:626672db.18965.4c6b...@fred.mandfb.me.uk> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII On 24 April 2022 at 23:18, Gyle McCollam said: > Using Windows 11 and GnuCash 4.10 > > Also had this issue in an older version. What operation is it canceling? All 3 options have the same > result, They all close the program without saving I'm running 2.6.21 (on Windows10). Clicking the X, or File->Quit, both produce a dialog offering a choice of close-without-save, cancel, or save-and-close. "Cancel" does what I expect: cancels the close operation and returns to the same state as if I hadn't done File-Quit. > and upon restart, I got > the message that "GnuCash could not obtain the lock for > C:\Users\*****\OneDrive\Documents\GNUCash\**.gnucash." The filename suggests you are keeping the file "in the cloud", and if so this (failure to delete the lock file) seems to be expected behaviour, regardless of Windows or Gnucash version. ------------------------------ _______________________________________________ gnucash-user mailing list gnucash-user@gnucash.org <mailto:gnucash-user@gnucash.org> To update your subscription preferences or to unsubscribe: https://lists.gnucash.org/mailman/listinfo/gnucash-user If you are using Nabble or Gmane, please see https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Mailing_Lists for more information. ----- Please remember to CC this list on all your replies.
