Michael, that is generally true and I'll hazard specifically true with respect to XML files. But MS does have some things they refuse to let you open with browsers other than Edge. It is a source of contention in the tech world and there are plenty of blogs and articles about it. As far as I am aware though, each of these cases is something the OS generates a link to and not a user file.
