I believe that github is the best of both worlds as it provides the people who like subversion a way to keep working with it and those who want to work with git a way to do so.
We could even provide a mirror back to gna. The only consideration is that the FSF doesn't like github because it's nonfree. This is NOT a position I agree with. GC.
