WILLY THREATENS TO SUE PARRIKAR: Nationalist Congress Party Goa president 
Dr Wilfred de Souza has threatened to sue Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar 
in defamation case of Rs.five crore for allegedly damaging his reputation 
by giving false information to the public. The NCP leader said that the 
statement of the Chief Minister about the Supreme Court of India having 
fined Dr de Souza is nothing but a stunt, made in keeping in mind the 
ensuing elections. (WE-GT)

MGP, UGDP JOIN HANDS: The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and the United 
Goans Democratic Party yesterday announced their electoral adjustment for 
the Goa assembly election scheduled on May 30. (H)

GOVT'S CONTRIBUTION TO TOURISM: Goa's bread and butter sectorTourismis one 
area where the BJP government's contribution can be dubbed as 'quite 
satisfactory', though it could have performed much better. Last season 1.17 
lakh charter tourists spent their holidays in Goa compared to 94,000 the 
previous year. Goa has been selected to be the international yacht hub, the

BOOKLET ON BUS, TRAIN TIME-TABLE: A small, pocket-sized booklet, costing 
Rs.5, prepared by Ribandar-based Prof GV Kelkar, gives the time-table of 
interstate buses and train services from the Margao railway station, has

NRI FACILITATION CENTRE MEET: Methods to pool in registrations from NRI's 
have to be formulated through contact addresses and mailing list of 
registered organizations and also hold interaction between NRI's to 
determine their needs, was the outcome of the meeting of the NRI

ONE DIES IN ROAD MISHAP: One Luis Colaco, 35, of Santarset-Aldona, died on 
the spot when he fell on the road after a Kinetic scooter rammed his 
scooter from behind. Police registered a case against the rider Zico Tome 
Fernandes, of Quitula. (WE-GT)

KONKANI BOOKS: "Books should be prepared not only by scholars but writers, 
I feel many of our text books are badly written and follow and artificial 
rigid pattern. No abstract pattern can be set for all books. Each textbook 
should be studied and modified if need be, according to certain aesthetic,

LOST GRANDEUR OF PANJIM: "For a city and an era where limited recreational 
activity was available for its citizens, it was the Panjim Municipal Garden 
which was the centre of activity and leisure for the gentry and citizens. 
The garden was locate opposite the Square, where once stood the majestic 
building of the Primeiro Senado de Goa (Panjim Municipal Council). This 
square was known as the Praca de Flores (now children's park). The building 
had, in the centre, a tower with a clock. All round the garden square were 
built the palatial houses of the rich, with all the building having ground

LAXMAN PAI FETED: Laxman Pai, a Goan artist of international repute, was 
felicitated at a gathering organized by the Konkani Bhasha Mandal at the 
Konkani Bhavan in Aquem. Pai, on receiving a set of books and a memento 
presented by KBM, said that he was proud to be a Goan and a Margaokar. (WE-GT)

GOA WIN U-21 CHAMPIONSHIP BY TOSS: Lady luck smiled on Goa and they took 
home the glittering M Dutta Ray Trophy, the symbol of supremacy in Under-21 
football, for the third time as their encounter with holders IFA, Bengal, 
ended in an one-all draw in Karnataka yesterday. (H)

TEN FOOTBALLERS GRADUATE: For the first time ever, 10 young footballers 
fully trained in skill and techniques of the game, yesterday graduated from 
the prestigious Sesa Football Academy, Sanquelim. The ten 19-year-old lads 
include: Ryan de Souza, Bernard Pires, Abishek Lawanis, Barry de Silva, 
Shankar Falari, Milton Fernandes, Franky Dias, Conrad Fernandes, Milagrio
