Gilbert Lawrence: "All their (Manglorean former Goan Catholics) lands, goods and personal property were confiscated and given away to loyal subjects. Their churches were destroyed and many of the stones were used to build mosques and other monuments." Wonder how often Tariq has railed against this episode in Goan history - the ultimate revision of the history of Goans. Santosh: As far as I know, Tariq has never railed against anything in Goan history. There is no virtue in claiming that one's own religious bigots killed less number of people than someone else's religious bigots, let alone doing it by using unsubstantiated and fabricated facts. If one wants to revise history to feel good about one's past, one can certainly do it better by not taunting others.
Gilbert: Thanks for reading the final part (III) of the Inquisition in Goa. Lots of cyberGoans (Catholics and non-Catholics) had opinions (without facts) about the inquisition in Goa. How-come you are the only one to comment about it (the inquisition) now that the whole story is presented? :=)) Regards: "As far as I know, Tariq has never railed against anything in Goan History". Your memory is either short and/or your historical facts are convenient. The point: there are all kinds of bigots including yours and mine. When one points to someone else's bigots, we should make it a point in the same paragraph / page to point to our own (as Jose Colaco tends to do). The Pope has apologized for his bigots, I would like to see other (religious and political) leaders acknowledge and apologize for their bigots too. Any Hindus, Muslims and Jews reading this post? :=)) Perhaps the take home message for all of us is "one knows where the shoe bites". Goans both in Goa and in the Diasporas should know about the true tragedies of Goans. I hope next time you rile on the Goan inquisition you will get a perspective of what Goans and Catholics suffered in India (where ever they are). Or do we want to deny their tragedies. Historical injustices (perpetrators and victims in India and across the world) is not a prerogative of a few. Once again I apologize for bursting your bondol when your write, "let alone doing it by using unsubstantiated and fabricated facts" about the Manglorean (ex-Goan) massacre of 30,000-80,000. I honestly feel you are taunting and insulting Manglorean and Goan Catholics by denying this episode. This, while you know in detail and are concerned of four Portuguese physicians who were victims of the "Catholic Inquisition" (and the Bishop who introduced it in Goa). I appreciated the opportunities to dialogue with you on the Goan Inquisition. But sometimes the pious attitudes are convenient and phony.:=) Goan writers (in print, on the web and in cyberspace) do such a good job highlighting / repeating / concentrating on Goan bondol / kaneos that we forget / overlook our true history / facts. Now who is denying the (Goan) holocaust? Or have we forgotten our Diasporas? ... And have the audacity to call the true facts unsubstantiated / fabricated / ghuspott. :=))) ########################################################################## # Send submissions for Goanet to [EMAIL PROTECTED] # # PLEASE remember to stay on-topic (related to Goa), and avoid top-posts # # More details on Goanet at http://joingoanet.shorturl.com/ # # Please keep your discussion/tone polite, to reflect respect to others # ##########################################################################
