The Indian Citizenship Act says that the prescribed authority has to determine the nationality or citizenship as per Article 5 of the Constitution. - Here is another opinion in the OHeraldo, by one *Peter De Melo/ * "We should be thankful to the Portuguese Government for giving an opportunity for Goans to have Portuguese passports so that they can travel to European countries and get employed and have a decent living. The people of Goa grabbed this opportunity due to unemployment at home. If this opportunity was not granted then we would see unqualified and qualified roaming on streets. It is very difficult for us and our youth to get jobs in government and other major reputed companies. Without realizing the future outcome people decided to apply for Portuguese passports as everyone has an ambition and a dream, even during ancient times we saw people seafaring for the lack of home opportunity and government’s incapability in creating employment. Goans need to rise for this issue and fight. We should not allow our hard earned living and peace to be disturbed. One time amnesty, why? Is it going to benefit those who have gone aboard or create panic among them, kill their ambition and deny of their livelihood. If they come back can the local government support them by providing jobs. Don’t put them back in frying pan. Most of the time the Government depends on honest powerless hard working. One should be honest and good gentleman to fight for their rights instead of leading their lives into trouble. These poor honest people are not a burden to the government, on the contrary we should appreciate them for their contribution to the state in so many ways such as financial institutions, private companies, industries and government sector, locals and labor. If they were in Goa, they would be unemployed, some of them falling into bad vices, forming gangs, commiting robberies, public offences and disturbances. One should not feel contended on others woes. During the election campaigns representatives from the present ruling party announced that the CM will fight for dual citizenship for Portuguese passport holders, they will also make election cards for them (PP), knowing the fact that they don’t have right to vote. Without giving a second thought, many voted for BJP. Now we should not stab them behind their back. PP holders are not foreigners living in Goa, they are born and brought up in Goa but grabbed the opportunity provided by the Portuguese government so that they can have a better living for their family and good education for their children". ----- As I said in one of my previous posts, how this problem will be solved has to be seen. That was my question and I thought there would be some answers. Except for Antonio, who isn't a legal eagle, the other post by an incorrigible smartass is nothing but an ugly insight into his deformed mine. Bione pro-Portuguese is one thing, but being shallow and vain is another. The decision from the centre is anxiously awaited. Eugene
