Marshall is right. I did mix up Dr. Owen Pinrto with Lavy Pinto. I have never met Lavy and neither have seen him run. As a contemporary of Mary D'Souza, Lavy was a big name in athletics in the 50s. Dominic has given a good write-up. I recently got an emal from Mary's daughter how to go about asking the government to honour Mary on the promise to plrovide her state recognition. I informed her to get in touch with Sports Council of Goa and the Sports and Youth Affairs ministry. I think evern Lavy should be honour likewise. The Goa government should be stimulated to do recognize the past heroes of Indian sports. They should also honour Neville D'Souza, the only footballer to score a hat-trick at the Olympics, his borther Dereyk and legion of others who represented India. Time the government is serious about giving some living and those dead pride of place in the sporting history of Goa, though some of them were born outside Goa and shone in their respective field for some other states.
