Thanks for the three responses to my question "There are stone lions on the gates of some Goan houses. In Moira I know of at least 5 such houses. I think this motif signifies that it was built by an Africander. I know for sure at least 2 of the Moira ones were. I've seen the lions in other villages too.
Could anyone say whether I'm right or wrong?" Of them was from @ jc: "You are wrong" which was unhelpful. Another was from the google Don Frederick Noronha: " http://www.askpedia.com/q/938/Twin_lion_statues_at_entrance_to_home He tried to be helpful but ended up being misleading as the Chinese lions he was referring to came from another culture. Finally the one from Albert Peres was very informative and helped support but not prove my assertion: http://windyskies.blogspot.ca/2009/11/lions-at-gate.html This blog indicates that the lions on the gate were placed there at a time when only the Africanders were getting enough money to build such lion-gated mansions. Actually if people from the villages where such lions rest could simply find out whether the houses were built by Africanders it would prove my thesis. Hellp! Augusto
