I applaud their commitment to the freedom of expression. I also appreciate the advice you have given to Goans who expect to get higher level employment abroad without the qualifications and experience needed by the host country. It is worth reiterating that a mere Portuguese passport does not guarantee anything besides entry into the EC. Goans would do well to study hard and achieve the best they can achieve. And many Goans do. Some of them who are based in Swindon. Having said that, I applaud ANY Goan who commits to working ANY job anywhere. The UK is full of Punjabis who initially worked in the rest rooms at Heathrow Airport so that their children could achieve their dreams. A similar story for the Gujratis and Bangladeshis who came and worked all kinds of hours in tiny corner-shops or in hot and poorly-ventilated Curry-Take-Away kitchens. They sacrificed for their children. And their children have done them proud. These 'desis' who came as workers - now are owners, employing the next-cheapest labour available i.e. Eastern Europeans. It is OK to decide for one NOT to venture into the unknown and be happy with the predictable. That is one's right. But let us not knock those who work in whatever jobs they can work in - IF that is part of their plan. Trust me, IF they work hard, they will make it. The West also allows 'workers' to one day become 'owners'. (Reminds me of Moti, the proprietor of Marietta Restaurant in Panjim. He started off as a waiter at Venite ....and courtesy of funding from overseas...worked his way to own his own restaurant) Now, one qualification which will not get anyone (Goan or otherwise) anywhere particular ... is the MA in Microbiology from Goa University. This is because Goa University offers no such degree. Honestly, it would be hard to imagine any university worth its salt offering such a degree. Even so, I must say that it must be the summer heat + the stress of studying in Goa which caused them to Pass Out IN Goa University AFTER their post-graduate degrees. I have to wonder what went on there! BTW: I thought that I'd kind of review what this term "Passed Out" actually meant. Attached is what I found. good wishes jc PS: Is it possible that Goanet has changed one of its rules since Herman Carneiro last posted the Goanet Rules and Guidelines which included Rule # 5: Use your real name as the Sender, not an alias ? NOW ...here is what I found out about "PASSED OUT"; am almost sure that Konklish has another definition for that phrase. http://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/passed%20out Main Entry: PASSED OUT Part of Speech: adjective Definition: unconscious Synonyms: anesthetized, asleep, blacked out, comatose, dead to the world, knocked out, out cold, out like a light == http://www.wordwebonline.com/en/PASS OUT Verb: pass out ( pãs awt ) PASS OUT from weakness, physical or emotional distress due to a loss of blood supply to the brain - faint, conk, swoon Give to several people i.e. "The teacher PASSED OUT the exams"
