I think we need to look at that situation and event in context like every other
event..

The Man being spoke about by the priest
Was no longer around when the book was written. He died in prison..And this man
mentored
Ikeda while in prison...WHile many buddhist priest during that period succumbed
to the pressure put on the temple by the military government..

Priest to many japanese ...were considered like traitors because they didnt
stand up to the tyranny of the monarchy and war machine..while others were
persecuted.and imprison...

There was much animosity towards those that worked towards the war effort and
those opposed...I dont know if that priest was right or wrong...But that priest
could have handled the situtation a little better..and so could have Ikeda..if
indeed the priest was right....

Yes ..maybe he did attack the priest..maybe he felt the priest was dishonoring
the dead..To the western mind..it might not have meant much..Japanese culture
is quite different.

If my mentor was wrong and was around to defend himself..of course i wouldnt
interfere.but would look for an anwser..That was not the situation there..

The man called into question was not around to defend himself..It could be this
priest said other things that we  do not know..people say things and dont
necessarily put everything  they say in books...but are often are called to
task..

my father is dead..if some one was to come around and put in a book that my dad
was a mass murder ..I would be ticked off..And would interpreted it ..that this
man is slandering my father..

When someone is falsely slantered, how does that person get their reputation
back? Just cause a priest wrote the book doesnt make it credible...I mean I am
not a lawyer..It would take much more evidence before i could pass judgement
against Ikeda...

Mentors can be very wrong..that doesnt mean you should slander them...I know
priest and preachers and popes, and Imams that have been wrong..

Now as a buddhist..one should  be non-violent..that is the ideal state of
consciousness..But is that the case all the time..no..I recalled an incedent
over ten years ago where tibetian monks fought each other...I believe one or
two monks were killed in the violence..does that mean they are not buddhist? We
can say they are not good buddhist maybe..but to say they are not buddhist..who
is to judge that?

Should... shoshu, shu,SgI in totality be slantered ,,because some members dont
act right?

Jesus -

If your mentor was really in the wrong, and the scholar had his facts in order,
does he really rate a punch in the nose because your mentor made a mistake?

Or is your mentor automatically infallible, and the scholar was automatically
in error because he disagreed with your mentor?

I'm just curious here......
