Hi Adam Couldn't agree more with your sentiments. In addition to working on fairly significant projects with appengine, I run our small business web site on appengine as well (www.fishandlily.com.au).
It is really a headache free environment if you get everything sorted. We don't have to worry about os upgrades. Server/hardware problems etc... My wife manages the content (again a small cms for us) and I occasionally make some tweaks to the code base. With agressive use of memcache, we almost never see any of the major problems of increased datastore latency.
