Obviously, a version of WINE that is at least at
the same version level of the "Picasa WINE" should
be installed on the system.

I'm running a bleeding-edge version of WINE and
version 3.6 Windows Picasa. WINE is currently at 1.2
(released about a week ago).

Why not take advantage of the newer version? You don't
*have* to have the latest, but if you look at the WINE
changelog, you may see something beneficial (besides
bug fixes, of course).
