How do I force Picasa (3.0.5744-02) to do a database rebuild?

I am using Picasa in Ubuntu 10.04 & want it to make a "clean" start.

I did a "Complete Removal" using Synaptic Package Manager, but this
did not seem to be complete enough, because when I re-installed
Picasa, it still had my previous Folder-Manager settings & did not
start re-cataloging pictures.

Next, I did another "Complete Removal" then looked in my home
directory, where there was still a .picasa folder.
So I deleted that folder & re-installed Picasa, but it is unchanged.

Can anybody help with (simple?) advice for database removal/rebuild &/
or complete removal of Picasa from Ubuntu?

Thanks!
