yes, you do loose some of the exif data, copyright info...etc

I have never had a problem with bending a pin in ~8 years now and all of
my cameras use CF cards.  Hooking up usb to the camera (Oly 5050z, Nikon
D200 and D3), is unwieldy and eats batteries.  I have a small card reader
on my desktop cabled to the computer.

I sincerely doubt it.  Wine's drive virtualization has remained constant
over the last many years.
