To get Picasa 3.8 on my 64-bit Ubuntu box, I first downloaded and installed Wine, downloaded the Picasa 3.8 setup file for Windows and opened the latter in Wine. The command which opens Picasa is somewhat more complicated than that which works for Patrick above, *viz*, «env WINEPREFIX="/home/mhenriday/.wine" wine C:\\windows\\command\\start.exe /Unix /home/mhenriday/.wine/dosdevices/c:/users/Public/Start-meny/Program/Picasa\ 3/Picasa\ 3.lnk», but fortunately I don't have to type this in a terminal to start the program ; instead I simply click on the Picasa icon I've placed on the top panel. To get it there : Accessories → Wine → Program → Picasa 3 [Folder] → Picasa 3. A right-click on the latter icon allows one to place it on the Gnome top panel....
