I'm using 3.0 and have made no updates to my computer since my last

If I download and install the latest wine to run 3.8 with, how will that
impact google earth? I seem to remember having problems with GE last
time I did a fresh install, and I really don't need any more trouble
right now.
If I can't upload to picasa albums unless I install 3.8, that's the only
reason I've seen for bothering to do the upgrade. Is that a sure-fire fix?

Yeah, it's free, we shouldn't complain, but you'd think that common
courtesy would suggest that google post some sort of down-time notice.
