It worked for me too. Slackware 13.37. Deus ex machina, I guess.
So this is yet another situation where the users frantically try to fix
the problem WHICH IS NOT WITH THEM BUT IS INSTEAD WITH THE SERVER.

I have this problem with Ubuntu 10.04 LTE. I see a log file ~/.google/
picasa/3.0/picasa.log with the following entries whenever I attempt
the login that fails:
