Of course, I must agree to your point at a broader level; but the manufactured 'issue' that is being floated by the BJP from a communal plank cannot be ignored too. The unhappy incidents triggered at Bangalore, etc, by arousing communal hatred could not have been countered by focusing on ecological concerns alone, to the exclusion of other issues that are inseparably linked to those ; e g, those related to effectively challenging the cynical mixing of myth and history by the communal forces on the one hand, and a colluding (secular) State on the other. More importantly, once the agenda is prioritized as protecting the assumed glory of Ram by these bigots, it becomes be the duty of a Secular State to see that this is not used for the spreading of hate and killing of people caught unawares. Finally, the struggles for resisting encroachments on the means of livelihood of ordinary people should be brought back to focus and before doing that, of course, we need to recognize that the major stumbling block is communalising the issue as such, not by the BJP alone , but also by a section of the UPA combine.
