For the question of one or multiple files, I think the best would be to have : - one gabc ; - one "nabc" for each neumatic notation.
The ancient notation doesn't need (as I think, and as we can see in *Graduale triplex*) to be strictly aligned with notes ; moreover, if desired, it could be done by defining a syntax thad would align / with neumatic spaces, or something similar. A benefit coming from multiple files would be that we could have one source for the notes, while combining it with multiple sources for the neumes (as, even between St Gall's manuscripts, there can be differences). I would suggest making the combination, not in the main.tex, but while converting gabc to tex : something like : gregorio file.gabc -sc file_stgall.nabc -l file_laon.nabc -o file.tex. As the three files (in my example) would be supposed to have the same text, it would'nt be too difficult to combine them in the output. Cheers, Fr.
