Thanks!  I actually did have it working before, but it regressed (perhaps to do 
with my downloading the SVN where I had used a different version before (I 
think).  It did take me a while to get it working, with lots of help from this 
list.

The first line did return a blank line.
The second, this: lrwxr-xr-x     1 root  wheel     63 Feb  3 22:15 texbin -> 
/Library/TeX/Distributions/.DefaultTeX/Contents/Programs/texbin
Third: It didn’t yell.
Fourth: /usr/texbin/latex
Fifth: blank.

Am I gonna survive, doctor? :)
